- Inspect the Makita drill 1220 battery for small screws that hold the plastic case of the Makita 1220 battery together. If you locate these screws, use a small Phillips head screwdriver to remove them. Proceed directly to Step 3 if you were able to find the screws and successfully removed them.
- Heat up a soldering iron equipped with a chisel tip if you do not find any screws that hold the pack together. You will use the chisel tip to cut a line around the molded hard plastic case that encloses the battery pack. Set the pack on its base and carefully work your way around the midpoint of the pack in a straight line. Allow the hot plastic to cool.
- Separate the two pieces of plastic case to reveal the inside of the 1220 Makita battery pack.
